Interpretation Training

Founded in 2002 by Pablo Chang-Castillo and Julien Brasseur, and based in San Francisco, our mission is to foster the industry of interpretation and translation by providing professional interpreter Training seminars throughout the United States. We use the most advanced teaching materials and interpretation techniques.  All of of our faculty are either graduates of the Monterey Institute of International Studies or are AIIC conference interpreters. Our instructors also include federally (AOUSC) and state certified court interpreters and ATA-certified translators. We strive to assist currently certified interpreters to increase their knowledge and skill sets, help non-certified interpreters prepare for their state oral examinations, and for those qualified interpreters who wish to become federally certified, we thoroughly prepare them for the Federal Court Interpreter Certification Examination (FCICE). Chang-Castillo also provides specialized courses in conference interpretation.

Our Experience

Chang-Castillo has the resources and experience to consistently exceed your expectations. Our culturally diverse, international faculty members have been hand selected based on three primary factors:

1.   They are all renowned experts in the fields of translation (certified by the ATA), legal/court interpretation (both Federally and State certified) and conference interpretation (certified by the International Association of Conference Interpreters and the Department of State).

2.   They are graduates of world-renowned translator and interpreter schools such as the Monterey Institute of International Studies, the Interpretation and Translation Institute of Higher Studies in Florence, Italy, and the Graduate Institute of Interpreters and Translators (ISIT) in Paris, France.

3.   They are all currently employed in their respective professions, honing, experiencing, and practicing the necessary skills to meet the challenges found in our courtrooms today.  Our instructors are, therefore, able to impart to our students their knowledge of current issues and to demonstrate proven and successful interpretation and translation techniques.

Our training materials are second to none because the documents used are current, some used during headline local and international legal cases.  Our teaching materials are updated on a yearly basis to ensure that our students are using topical materials. Various interpretation techniques are discussed and demonstrated including décallage, meaning units, terminology, tone, parsing, parallel reading, and pacing.

Our courses and instructors are paradigms of the highest ethics and professionalism.

Since its creation, Chang-Castillo has trained over 600 certified interpreters and more than 500 non-certified interpreters. We are currently a continuing-education approved provider for the ATA, California, Washington, Tennessee, Nevada, Kentucky; and Utah.  Upon request, we will submit applications with any other state requiring continuing education approval for certified court interpreters.

Custom interpretation courses can be provided for groups of (12) or more students. Please call our office for a quotation.
